All day and night, I tried to stifle
my impulse to reach out to you.
Silly, that, since already I had
touched you in the space that connects us.
We were communing
in that place where hearts meet.
It is a mind game
to pretend that we cannot read
each other’s hearts.
We thoughtfully analyze
and reason leads us to the desert.
Dry, fatigued, in imagined safety
we shelter in a sliver of shade
and all the while
our hearts are singing to each other,
our souls are giving the lessons
we agreed to give
long before we opened our eyes
to this merry-go-round
the dizzy distractions,
the mazes that all
eventually lead us back
to our deep connection.
