Make Such Hard Work

I am learning to find

sanctuary here in my body.

I had to flee so often

as a young child, hailing a book-taxi

to take me far away from

the living organism

I’d abandoned, like a vehicle

out of gas, locked in the garage.

Sitting quietly like a good girl.

Now that I’m back, I focus on proper

nutrition, listen to the signals

which I’ll confess can be so very

painful.  Being right here

right now,

wandering a museum

the artifacts weird and symbolic.

My grocery bill is 44.44,

and the clerk says,

the angels are behind you

in numerology.  Every memory

a gift.  Lyrics are insights.

There are no stray thoughts

or coincidences now that I’m

hosting the world at last.
