Missing Humans

Deepest night inexorable forces
pry unmarked portals I had to exit
in dangerous times.  Untapped resources
vivify my frozen places, cesspits

of untreated trauma.  Currents collide
and sleepless I sift through, summon wisdom
and courage to preside, healing divides.
This fractal of mine resolves old victim

songs.  Don’t disparage magical thinking.
Young children know true magic.  Spooked adults
corral and cage powerful ways.  Drinking
the killing koolaid, lost in their masked cults.

I walk the world today, mystified.  Where
have the humans gone?  These automatons
I once believed alive, cannot breathe air
yet mindlessly obey, their freedoms gone.
