Lovely, Dark and Deep

Before dawn, the old man snuggled cozy
on the couch grumbles affronted to see
a kitten pounce. Has this gone on all night?
I nestle near. Temperature’s drop a fright
to drip water through pipes, avoid a freeze.
The homeowner’s acumen cannot cease
in winter’s pummel. We dream seeds of spring
anticipate fresh air, the homecoming
of walking barefooted and drunk with sun
cuddling before this winter day’s begun.

Inspired by: Acumen, Homecoming, Drunk and a windchill of minus 25 Fahrenheit.
