With You, There’s A Heaven

Last night I waved goodbye~Barry Manilow

At dawn, Barry Manilow is singing
in my head, when will I see you again?
And so the tears begin. Songbirds winging
through the crying sky perch nearby, begin

a whistling watch, sweet young orioles
their goal grape jelly, altruistic bowls
of purple dollops. How they dither, scout
halfway in safety, before they start out

cautious and hungry while the finches feed
delicately gorging in black thistle greed.
And here I breathe. The rain has stopped. My cheeks
bear salty tracks of paths my grief bespeaks.
