For You, No More Crying

And the songbirds keep singing like they know the score.~Christine McVie

They pour the bourbon, pass the blunt to stunt
these grievous feelings that they cannot confront,
sleep through the early morning wisdom prayers
the songbirds sing in ancient language airs

which cut through pandemonium. The wake
looms, garrulous loud buffoons who’re aching
to take the stage. No audience, escape
takes shape in this chirping sacred landscape.

Giving space–and short shrift to the crowders
who mistake my reticence. The cowards
who perfected bullying on me, heaped
emotions I carried willingly, threaped

and chastised my differences, so self worth
had quite a lengthy struggle. My new birth
invisible to them, juggling, too
as we each give this grief its solemn due.

Inspired by: Blunt, Pandemonium and Garrulous and a song I’ve been singing lately, Songbird by Christine Perfect.
