So Happy Together

When you’re with me, baby, the skies will be blue.~Garry Bonner and Alan Gordon.

We weave in an intricate sense-pulled dance.
Aficionada of light romance
I’m framing shots while squatting very still.
She’s nosing through the leaves, dragging downhill

against my arbitrary stops. Her trail
beyond the concrete a new world unveils.
I pause and finally she enters in.
We hunters pose: she points, I click, ducks swim.

Inspired by: Aficionado, Arbitrary, Concrete, Intricate and a morning photo walk with my dog.

Featured image: This scene we both agreed was key. Below: Cassidy doing what she loves best.

Pierced By Morning

In the still morning light conquers shadows
to reveal fleeting mandalas wind throws
in the darkness. Red maple leaves exceed
their limits, untreed and tumbled to bleed

poetry and art. The sky echoes pinks.
Mallards feather trails of spiraling links
in water reflecting the willow’s weep.
My dog feasts on the scents, she noses deep

in sculptures of pinecones and needles rust
my battery’s recharged, senses upthrust
bliss bowls me over, no trepidation
this vivid autumn painting elation

Winter Is Coming

My pup shares my weakness for soft blankets
snuggle cuddle in sensory banquets
defense from intermittent chill of fall.
I’ll not turn on my heat where there’s a shawl

hand-knitted by my prescient mother
to don. Comfort stitches under cover
pierce the dark hours as the dawn creeps later
and the night extends its reach, curator

of the light, frugal in autumn’s descent
silent as conjecture where summer went
is spent and we prepare, Persephone-
pacated captives on winter’s journey.

Inspired by: Conjecture, Pierce, Weakness and Intermittent.

New Dog, Who Dis?

Poetry time, my dog goes back to bed.
She’s had a walk, sweet talk, watered and fed.
Her black and white and pink zhuzh are doing
the unexpected. Nascent hope’s brewing

and my raison d’ĂȘtre renewing. Slim
ribbon esperance unfurls bashful, prim
these years devoted strictly to healing
have stitched this glorious flag I’m wielding

Inspired by Zhuzh, Nascent, Renewing and Ribbon.

Life Cycles

For Carolyn Sue on her birthday.

Sitting on the floor as sun spills golden
through the green, green leaves, puppy emboldened
brings her scrumptious bone and chews by my side
then chases tail. Exuberance provides

the path to rejuvenation
grief and sorrow detonation

I am opened wide before this display
antics, mischief, a desire to play

The need for qualifications release
let experts drone, opine. I am at peace
with wisdom carved from my own conscious breath
greet certainties of life: sun, stars and death.

Inspired by: Scrumptious, Detonate, Rejuvenate, Before and a puppy who is helping me today on my deceased mother’s birthday.

Featured image: After I texted my pup’s former owners with an update, she cuddled with this pink blankie she’s had since she was tiny. Before that, she posed (below).

Before The Light

Under the bright crescent gleam reflected
earth, our outlet, to pace undetected
a woman and a dog, brash and fearless
with business to attend, accord peerless

no frictions to soothe, no path to discuss,
I lead, we proceed without any fuss.
No need to malinger, hearts open, calm,
the lingering hush of dawn our sweet balm.

Inspired by: Brash, Discuss, Malinger and Outlet.

Training Daze

Between the fitful storms, cautioned by crows
and bluejays from the dead treetops and poles
we somehow manage to stay dry. The wet
is tracked by paws and boots. A new mindset:

it’s clear that she played alpha. That role’s mine
and so she tries and tests and sometimes whines.
The situation is equivalent
to sneaky encroachments by government

just so I meet the inroads, standing firm
to ev’ry tentative assay, confirm
my understanding of my sovereign power
invisible as breath, aimed to empower.

Inspired by: Equivalent, Wet and Fitful and by a precious doggie who wants to be queen.

Clever As They Come

She’s putting roots in fresh soil, planted here
with me, new digs, new name. Granted, there’s fear.
Responding to a casting call she hears
for alert guardian–bred for sharp ears

and so I turn on white noise, teach new tricks
while her old life’s wrapped in a shroud, we fix
our energetic fields. She sits, she heels.
The viewers gasp. She follows my appeals.

Inspired by: Shroud, Gasp, Viewers and Soil and my new rescue dog, Cassidy, which means clever.
